Tell us about the mold

No obligation. Independent local companies reply to you directly.

What happens next

  1. Your request is passed along

It goes to independent mold companies that work in your area. Someone may call or text if a key detail is missing, such as your town or the rough size.

  2. Companies contact you

They may ask questions, ask for photos or set a time to look. Describe your situation any time; companies reply on their own schedules, and replies can be slower after a named storm.

  3. You compare and decide

Ask each one for an itemized written estimate. Quotes are free, and you are not obligated to hire anyone.

What helps companies quote accurately

A few details save a lot of back-and-forth. You don't need all of them, and rough is fine.

  • Where it is. Bathroom ceiling, a bedroom wall, closets, the attic, the crawl space under a raised house, around the air handler or in the ducts. Include your neighborhood, town or ZIP code.
  • Roughly how big. A dinner plate, a 3 by 3 foot patch, one wall, a whole room. Companies will measure.
  • The water source, if you know it. A roof leak after wind, a plumbing leak, an AC drain line that backed up, street flooding after heavy rain, or storm surge.
  • When it got wet. Days ago, weeks ago, or not sure. The EPA advises drying water-damaged areas within 24 to 48 hours, so timing matters.
  • Own or rent. Renters should tell the landlord in writing and keep a copy. Owners may want to mention an open insurance claim.
  • Photos later. There's no upload in the form. Take photos and video now, before anything is moved or torn out, and share them when a company asks.

Before you sign with anyone

Louisiana requires a Mold Remediation license from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) for mold remediation projects of about $7,500 and up (La. R.S. 37:2150.1). Before you sign, look up the company's license on the LSLBC website. Ask for a written contract with the license number, price and insurance certificates, and a written report when the work is done.

Testing is optional. The EPA says that in most cases, if visible mold growth is present, sampling is unnecessary. It can help with hidden mold, a dispute with a landlord or seller, or a clearance check after the work. If you want one, use a separate company: in Louisiana, a mold remediation contractor may not also do the mold assessment on the same property.
